Glen Cove Waterfront Park

Glen Cove is located on the Carquinez Straight, which connects the San Francisco Bay with the Sacramento Delta system. In 1988 the developers of Glen Cove drew up a plan for the 15 acre waterfront parcel located at the end of Whitesides Drive. Their plan, which was never implemented, created what could be described as a formal public recreation area called the "Glen Cove Waterfront Park".

Since 1988 there has been a move away from this type of heavy development towards development that accomodates public access while protecting our California shoreline. The Bay Area Ridge Trail is an example of this change. The idea, conceived around 1985 by National Park Service Director William Penn Mott, Jr., was to create a series of joining trails that would allow hikers to circumnavigate the entire San Francisco Bay. This trail system was to be as environmentally friendly as possible, allowing the public to enjoy the inherent beauty of California's waterfront while preserving that natural beauty for future generations.

The GCCA supports this plan and looks forward to our Glen Cove Waterfront Park becoming part of the Bay Area Ridge Trail system.
