Due to an observant neighbor, the men who burglarized neighbors in have been caught! That's the good news. The bad news is one of the men lives on North Regatta, within spitting distance of Flying Cloud Court. To make a long story short, one of my neighbors remembered seeing a suspicious car parked on Flying Cloud at the time of the burglery. The next day, as she was driving down North Regatta, she spotted the car and called the Vallejo Police. Apparently, they followed up on her tip, and caught the men today at the home with more stolen items. I don't know if they had a search warrant or probably cause, but I was told they found a lot of stolen items in the home.

Two things to keep telling your neighbors: 1) if you are home, make sure that is someone comes to your door, they know you are home; 2) Don't hesitate to write down the license plate of unfamiliar cars; or go for a walk down your block so unfamilar people know someone is around and watching.
************
Just a follow up with more information - apparently the two men were caught with goods they had stolen from a home on Paddlewheel and Sandpiper yesterday. They must have been really on a roll!

A neighbor on North Regatta saw them unloading goods from the car and called the police, who caught them with the items, then the police searched the home and found more (obviously stolen) items. My neighbor identified a watch taken from his home, but is not sure about other items, whether they had a chance to dispose of them yet. If any of your neighbors have been the victim of a home burglary during the day recently, you might alert them to contact the police to see if they can identify their property. We don't know if Vallejo Police hold evidence until after a trial, or they can get their property back sooner.

Hello -

My cat "Red" has been missing since around August 5 and I am hoping someone might have seen him either alive or dead somewhere around the Glen Cove Hills area. Hopefully alive.

He is a pale red color - close to the color of orange sherbert ice cream. He is an adult, neutered male, six years old w/short hair, medium build. He doesn't have a collar and probably wouldn't come up to anyone if called. However, cats are sometimes unpredictable when it comes to who they warm up to so I don't know for sure. He is very friendly when he is at home and doesn't bite or anything like that.

I would like to know what's happened to him and would be grateful for some news. I realize that as more time goes on, it probably won't be good news if any at all so don't be shy if you know something and it's bad. I would like to know anyway.

Thanks for your help and for taking the time to read this.

I would like to thank "Lguinasso" for the insightful look at the way the newsletter chose to handle the loss of the LMD issue.

I have to say, that the way that the news letter has chosen to take a stance against the communities vote is very disheartening. Instead of accepting the democratic process and trying to see where we should go from here, it's like they have thrown up their hands and said, "we're doomed, and you guys take care". Just exatly what message are they trying to send?

As for the inferance that we are all to cheap to pay an extra $62 a month to maintain the beautiful landscape, I think this comment alone shows how out of touch the commitee is whith the community. Have they not seen the gas prices, have they not seen the budget cuts statewide, or maybe they haven't seen the housing market take a huge hit. Maybe it's just me, but I gotta think that when my house is worth $200,000 less than what I bought it for, maybe the landscape isn't the first thing that comes to mind.

We have to find a new ways of doing things. The day of letting things take care of themselves and then throwing a money bomb at problems are over. We have votes, so that we as a community can let our representitives know what we want done. Obviously we voted not to keep paying more money for our landscape. Nowhere did we say we don't want our beautiful landscape. So if the commitee is saying that the only way to keep the landscape is to give more money, then why even have a commitee. Why don't we just pay the most expensive contractor and keep paying whenever they say we have too. I'm sorry but I just don't believe this is the only alternative.

I myself am a gardener. AA ornamental horticulture, Pesticide license, arborist license, backflow license, and 15 years irrigation and landscaping expierience. And as I look around I just don't see the botanical garden that is being expressed to me. We have a bunch of acacia redlands lining our hillside that need pruning once, maybe twice a year. The reason we have no weeds on the side of roads is because they spray pre-emergant herbicide once a year, and roundup as needed. The trees need pruning once every three to five years if done properly. And the biggest problem is probably maintaing irrigation and watching for leaks.
I would love to have a chance at auditing the bills we receive from the landscaper. In fact, I would like to ask who is auditing the bills? Having worked for a municipalty I know that sometimes no questions are asked and the bills are just payed as they come. The occasional bills gets scrutinized, but thats usually just to say they did it. In this day and time everything needs to be scrutinized and all work monitored to highest standards.

So with all this said I will agree that the landscape is an important part of maintaining a comfortable and pleasing community, and I would ask that the commitee not give up. But please do not take the eletist attitude and accuse us of not caring because our views differ. Let us all find a way to keep what we have and work together to solve problems. We can not work together if our commitee insist on trying to demean our collective vote.

Thanks, Augie

With all due respect to the two GCCA Board members who commented on our community's recent negative vote on the LMD fee increase, I found the attitude expressed in your comments very disturbing for someone who is supposed to be representing my and my fellow Glen Covians' interests. Almost to the point of childish "sour grapes", "I'm-taking-my-ball-and-going-home", "You'll be sorry!" type behavior.

We are not unappreciative of the great and time-consuming work you do on our behalf. And I don't think any of us would disagree with a one-time, maybe even long-overdue, increase in the LMD assessments for the great work that needs to be done. But right now, most of us do not want to lock ourselves into what historically and inevitably would become a locked-in automatic 3 percent per year increase - not in LMD, not in taxes, not in any kind of expenditure. Can't you understand that? Can't you see that's the kind of thing of the past that has caused Vallejo to go bankrupt.

You view it as a "bargain" for possibly higher future costs. We say, better to renegotiate from time to time, maybe seek out a cheaper contractor or make other arrangements. That's what's needed these days - not long-range lock-in guarantees that end up biting you in the end.

Only my opinion. But if you had had two separate votes -one for the one time increase and one for the 3 percent future raises - I think you would have gotten completely different results, and you'd have the much needed current increase.

Interested in what others' think about this.

I just wanted to stop by and say hello to everyone. My busy work schedule has kept me away from this board for a while. Anyhow, my neighbor close to the fire station has been burglarized a few weeks ago. Lucky for him, his alarm system tripped and the burglar had to rush out with only a few items. The burglar got in through the side door of the garage.

Another neighbor was approached recently by suspicious individuals as he was driving home from work very early in the morning. Thinking he might get car-jacked, he drove off past his home and called the police. He received a call a few hours from the police and was told a man with outstanding warrants was arrested.

We have been vigilant here on New Bedford and we look out for each others homes. I randomly drive around the neighborhood when I come home during odd hours. My neighbors and I let each other know if we plan on being away for more than a day.

Be vigilant folks. Get to know your neighbors and keep each other safe. I take my hats off to those on this board that look out for GC. You know who you are...

Last week we contacted Apollo Window Cleaning here in Glen Cove and the owner, Sean Woodward, came out the next day and our glass is amazingly clean. He said he is using a new cleaning agent that leaves the glass cleaner, longer, because it dries with a special protectant. He doesn't use dish soaps like Dawn or Joy. And yes.. He carries business insurance, we checked..

You can contact him at 1-800-618-5881
